What a Parking Lot Striping Job Looks Like in Chippewa Falls
Old housing means old driveways, and old driveways in this valley were often laid thin over a base that was never really built. That's the honest problem in Chippewa Falls: more of the surfaces we look at here are genuinely past sealing than anywhere else we work, and telling somebody that costs us the easy job.
The commercial side is the opposite story. The industrial parks on the east side and out toward Lake Wissota are newer, larger and truck-heavy, with the kind of lots where catch basins and dock aprons carry real weight and fail on a schedule.
Parking Lot Striping specifically in Chippewa Falls
Bridge Street downtown and the Commercial Boulevard corridor are two different striping problems. Downtown is tight, angled and constrained by the historic street pattern; the big-box lots out on WIS 124 are wide open and mostly about keeping the layout honest as it gets repainted.
The Driveways and Lots in Chippewa Falls
Chippewa Falls sits on the north bank of the Chippewa River with Duncan Creek running through the middle of it and Lake Wissota about three miles east. The West Hill rises on a bluff west of downtown, so the town has real grade: the hill and the river flats drain completely differently, and pavement on each behaves accordingly.
Chippewa Falls has the oldest housing stock we work in. Thirty-one percent of the city's houses were built before 1940, which is nearly double Eau Claire's share and eight times Lake Hallie's. Only about 16 percent has gone up since 2000.
The West Hill historic district is the clearest example: 163 contributing properties across 66 acres, running from 1870s lumber-baron mansions to 1950s ranch houses, sometimes on the same block. What that means practically is narrow drives, steep approaches, tight turns beside a house, and a lot of hand work. It's not a spray-and-go town.

Same freeze regime as the rest of the valley, with footings required at 48 inches minimum. The difference here is the bluff: water coming off West Hill has somewhere to go and takes the long way, so drives at the bottom of a grade see far more of it than the ones at the top.
Layout first, then paint
Repainting existing lines is the easy half. The half that matters is whether those lines were right in the first place, and on a lot that's been restriped three or four times by different crews, they usually have drifted. Stalls narrow by an inch each time somebody paints beside the old line rather than over it, drive aisles shrink, and eventually a delivery truck can't make the turn. We measure before we paint. Sometimes that means telling you the layout you have fits fewer cars than the layout you could have, which is a conversation worth having before the paint goes down rather than after.
What Decides the Price in Chippewa Falls
Priced per stall for straightforward restripes, or as a lump sum where there's layout work, ADA work or a lot of detail.
Restripe, existing layout
Per stall
Measured on site
- Single line stalls, straight over the existing layout
- Priced per stall, restripe or new layout
New layout
Per stall, measured and set out
Measured on site
- Where the layout has drifted or the use has changed
ADA stall with access aisle
Each
Measured on site
- Stall, hatched access aisle and symbol
- Signage and post priced separately if needed
Detail work
Arrows, fire lanes, numbers, crosswalks
Measured on site
- Priced per item
- Stencils and custom legends available
Striping done at the same visit as sealcoating costs less than striping done on its own, because the trip is already paid for and the surface is already right. If both are due, do both.
How the Work Goes in Chippewa Falls
Planned with you before the first stripe goes down.
Measure what's there
Stall widths, aisle widths, the accessible stalls and their aisles. This is where drift shows up, and it's a five-minute job that avoids repainting a layout that has quietly stopped working.
Clean the surface
Blown down. Paint over grit is paint that comes up with the grit, usually the first time a plow goes over it.
Lay out and chalk
Anything other than a straight restripe gets set out and chalked first, so you can look at it before it's permanent.
Paint
Traffic paint at the right film thickness. Thin paint looks the same on the day and is gone in a season, which is the striping equivalent of a thin seal.
Open it back up
Traffic paint is dry to walk on in under an hour. How long before cars go back on it depends on the paint and the weather that afternoon, so you get the real number on the day.
